When you move into a residential aged care home (nursing home) at Resthaven, we are committed to making you feel welcome. Visitors are welcome and encouraged at all reasonable times. In exceptional circumstances, such as a public health concern, visiting may be restricted, impacting on visiting times and opportunities. Please check with reception.

Our staff are qualified, insured, and police checked, providing dedicated and affordable support. Staff are offered ongoing training. All Residential Services Managers are Registered Nurses.

What to expect at Resthaven

All the comforts of home are provided for, as well as additional services including:

Dietitian approved meals, cooked fresh on-site, with different menu choices available to suit cultural needs if required

If your preferred language isn’t English, there may be staff on site who can speak your language to assist you with your communication needs
A Companion Service which supports residents to visit offsite locations in the company of an appropriately skilled Resthaven staff member. This service is provided via Lifestyle Choices Plus.

Resthaven Lifestyle Choices Plus

Resthaven Lifestyle Choices Plus offers some additional enhanced services that are available for purchase by, or on behalf of, residents.

Our Companion Service was introduced in 2017 across all of our homes and was very well received by residents and families. Many residents have taken advantage of being able to book one of our capable and trusted staff members to accompany them on a personal outing, to appointments, or have additional personal visits on site.

In response to feedback received from residents, we are trialling a new exercise program at some sites aimed at assisting balance, improving core strength and physical fitness. Classes are run three times a week by a qualified physiotherapist and residents with private health extras cover can claim back some of the expense.

We are also exploring additional catering options such as offering a special High Tea event or supplying a barbeque or picnic pack for a family get together.

Aged Care Rights

At Resthaven, we are committed to supporting and protecting the rights of our residents and clients, while recognising their responsibilities as well.

This commitment is part of our ongoing aim to deliver high-quality services, meeting the needs of the people we support.

Living in a residential community environment at Resthaven involves being accorded certain rights and accepting the responsibilities associated with living with others.

From time to time, meetings for all residents are held to discuss issues and planning matters. These meetings are a useful forum for issues and opinions to be raised with management.

Resthaven encourages feedback and welcomes your suggestions for improvement.

Resthaven supports your rights through the Australian Government’s Charter of Aged Care Rights.

A Restraint Free Approach

Resthaven practices a restraint free approach wherever possible, and does not support any restraint action or device that does not have the consent of the resident/client/representative.

What is a restraint free approach?

A restraint free approach means no restrictive practice, words, devices or actions will interfere with a person’s ability to make a decision or restrict their free movement.

Resthaven residents and clients are provided with restraint free options to ensure their safety.

Restraint free approaches may include:

Individual and group social activities
Safe walking areas
Appropriate signage and visual reminders to aid orientation
Alarm systems used to alert staff of a resident’s whereabouts.

Resthaven staff ensure that resident needs, such as hunger and thirst, continence management, or unrelieved pain, are promptly attended to and managed.
