 Rehabilitation and Therapy
The aim of therapy services is to improve the quality of life for clients through rehabilitation, maintenance and re-training to cope with the activities of daily living.
Therapy Services are incorporated into three of Resthaven's Community Services:Southern at Marion, Northern at Elizabeth and Paradise & Eastern.

Resthaven Therapy Services provide treatment for older people in the community, including Resthaven residents in low and high dependency care. The emphasis of therapy services is rehabilitation and maintenance of/ or improvement in independence. Services are provided by a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals.

Individual and group therapies are tailored for older people who have special needs, which include stroke, arthritis, continence and groups which assist memory and improve speech. As government funding is limited, individuals make a contribution towards the cost of the service. Enquiries can be made by contacting the Community Services closest to you. Phone 1300 13 66 33
Occupational Therapy At Resthaven, Occupational Therapists are involved in the provision of assessment and therapy services that are designed to promote safety and independence for older people living primarily within the community.
Individual programs include:
- Chronic conditions self-management
- Home safety assessments and education in falls prevention strategies
- Training in the safe use of aids and equipment to assist with daily living skills
- Stress management and relaxation techniques
- Management of memory disorders and maintenance of thinking skills
- Stroke rehabilitation
- Activities for residents of Resthaven aged care facilities who have memory loss / dementia
Group programs include:
- Staying on Your Feet - Falls Prevention Program
- Talk Back Group for people with Aphasia
- Moving Towards Wellness (a self-management program for people who live with a chronic condition)
- Good Thinking Group (a stimulation program for people with thinking skills and memory disorders)
- Parkinson's Disease Self Management Group
Physiotherapy
Individual physiotherapy treatment is offered, especially for orthopaedic, mobility and falls, chronic conditions.
Group exercise therapy for chronic conditions, including arthritis, CVD, COPD, boost aerobic capacity, strength and range of movement thus improving lifestyle and maintenance of independence.
Two levels are offered - "Heartmoves" conducted in standing and involving standard style gym work, "Easy Moves for Active Ageing" at a slower pace for those who need to sit down to exercise at times. Parkinson's disease assessment, treatment and self management including exercise, in conjunction with the OT department. Falls and balance group classes as client numbers demand.
