Retirement Living sites celebrate Resthaven’s 90th anniversary
Celebrating Resthaven’s 90th anniversary, Resthaven Retirement Living communities, Resthaven North Haven ‘The Haven’, Resthaven Elizabeth Vale ‘Riverview’, and Resthaven North Haven ‘Gulf Point’ recently held unique celebrations, bringing together residents and staff at each site.
At ‘The Haven’, a special lunch was held on 14 October, with entertainment by the band Buddies Four, who played country music and all the hits from the 50s.
Resident, Mrs Janet Murray, was called forward to cut the cake. Janet was chosen for the honour after also celebrating her 90th birthday this year.
Resident Mr Patrick Ortega enjoyed the celebration very much, commenting, ‘I liked the way the staff were able to intermingle with the residents. We live like a close-knit family, and it was nice to be given the chance to express our thanks and gratitude. The catering was exceptional and so was the musical entertainment.’
At the event at ‘Riverview’, held on 28 October, Mrs Shirley Kaye had the honour of cutting the 90th birthday cake.
Residents enjoyed a celebratory lunch, with entertainment by local singer, Bronwyn, and her daughter, Georgia. Everyone joined in when the duo sang the Neil Diamond song ‘Sweet Caroline’ – a classic village favourite.
The ‘Gulf Point’ lunch was held on 30 October, with 90-year-old residents Mr John Shaw, Mr Richard Lloyd, and Mr Brian Cooper all presented with a celebratory cake to cut.
When asked what his secret to longevity is, Brian responded: ‘Moderation in all things. I endeavour to exercise and keep my mind and body active and as healthy as possible.’
His words of wisdom to others: ‘Try to attempt as many of life’s challenges as possible. Don’t be afraid of trying new things, maintain a healthy lifestyle, have good friendships and live within your financial means.’
Entertainment on the day was by James Kendall, aka The Bikie Busker. The audience was enthralled by his flute playing and commented about how enjoyable it was.
