New residents embrace sustainable luxury at Resthaven Chiton Retirement Living

New resident of Resthaven Chiton Retirement Living, Sharyn Adam, says she and her husband Bruce are looking forward to enjoying a new phase of their lives, now that they have moved into the seven-star eco-village.

‘Retirement living here gives us flexibility,’ Sharyn says. ‘The gardens are maintained; the building will be looked after when we’re away. We can really relax.’

Sharyn says the eco-credentials of the village were an important factor in helping them to choose their new home.

‘With the seven-star energy rating, everything is environmentally friendly,’ Sharyn says. ‘The energy rating and the quality of the build, which is very environmentally friendly—with bricks, double glazing, even down to the paint used on the wall—is extremely important to us. I think it should be extremely important to everyone.’

Resthaven’s Chiton Retirement Living is a 40-unit village situated between Port Elliot and Victor Harbor. The village is set among nature, with bike tracks, abundant birdlife and views of the local wetlands. Each modern, architecturally designed home includes rainwater tanks, solar panels, solar hot water, a garages and energy-saving design features. The village also has space where residents can park their caravans, and a community Lakehouse, with a bar area and kitchen, library, hall, gym, lounge areas, and a deck.

‘We particularly like the beautiful setting with the Lakehouse,’ Sharyn says. ‘We love the space inside the homes, the lightness, and the design. It was really superb—everything we were looking for and more.’

Aside from the amenities, Sharyn is also enjoying the lifestyle.

‘People here have been extremely welcoming,’ Sharyn says. ‘There are so many activities offered at the village: art classes, fitness classes, get-togethers—just what we were looking for! We love walking, and there are plenty of opportunities around here to go for beautiful walks. We also enjoy just being quiet, reading, relaxing, a little bit of gardening. It’s really all our requirements condensed into much more convenient living.’
