Progress at Marion Community Wellness Centre development

Everything old is new again – at least for Kennett Builders, who have been appointed as the contractor for stage 1 of the $100M Resthaven Marion site redevelopment.

In a very ‘Adelaide’ turn of events, Kennett Builders built the original Resthaven Marion residential aged care home in the early 1970s. Now, more than fifty years later, they will be involved in the process of replacing it with a brand-new aged care home for 150 older people.

Before that, though, is Stage One – construction of the Resthaven Marion Community Wellness Centre, for which works are now underway. The site has been cleared and foundational works have begun.

The Resthaven Marion Community Wellness Centre will support older individuals to maintain their health, independence and wellbeing, featuring dedicated spaces for group programs and activities, exercise classes, day respite services, and a range of consulting rooms for allied health and visiting specialist options. The centre offers a range of flexible spaces able to deliver new service offerings such as information sessions, training facilities designed to meet the needs of both staff and the local community.

The project is targeting a Green Building Council of Australia 5-star Green Star rating, and construction of stage 1 is expected to be completed by October 2026.

A full history of the Resthaven Marion and Resthaven Marion Community Services sites, beginning with the donation of land in 1970, is available to read on Resthaven’s history website – Resthaven: A History of Caring.
