Resthaven sponsors Riverland Musical Society’s ‘Evita’
Supporting the local arts, Resthaven is this year a Gold Sponsor of the Riverland Musical Society’s performance of Evita.
To be held from 13-20 October at the Chaffey Theatre, Renmark, the title role of Eva will be played by Resthaven’s own Riverland Community Services Assistant Manager Samantha Harkins, with Simon Hill (Resthaven Riverland Community Services Registered Nurse) playing the role of Agustin Magaldi.
Rehearsals are going well, and both Sam and Simon (pictured) are enjoying the pace.
‘The musical society has always been my outlet to unwind,’ Sam says of the group with which she has been involved in for the past ten years.
‘I joined in 2014, and my first performance was Annie. A friend of mine was directing at the time, so I went along, joined in and absolutely fell in love.’
For Simon, this is his second year with the society, joining after some encouragement and inspiration from Sam.
‘I mentioned to Sam that I had an interest in singing,’ Simon says. ‘She put on some music, and we started singing backup tracks – it all grew from there.’
With the performance dates getting closer, Sam and Simon are looking forward to getting on the stage in front of the audience.
‘The team from the office normally comes along for a good night out,’ Sam says. ‘We’re quite a social group, so it’s nice to see people outside of work.’
Simon agrees, and adds, ‘I’ve even had a few clients mention to me that they are going to come along.’
