Matchless motorcycle presentation at Resthaven Marion Community Services

On Thursday 10 December, two of Resthaven Marion’s groups, the Men on the Move and the Parkinson’s self-management group, joined together to receive a special guest.  Stephen Hooper, who is Manager Facilities and Assets and based at Resthaven’s Head office, brought along his Matchless 1952, 500cc motorcycle sidecar to show the participants.

Stephen’s journey with his restoration project of the Matchless is one of passion and dedication.  The groups said Stephen spoke very well and shared his love of bikes through a pictorial journey on a PowerPoint presentation. Unfortunately, the motorcycle couldn’t quite fit through the door at Marion Community Services, so remained the centre of attention outside for all to see.

Clarry Abbott was reminded of his trips overseas with his BSA motorcycle.  Keith Hubber said he learnt more about motorbikes today than he has ever had in his life. Mr Hubber also mentioned that attending the Men on the Move group has changed his life. Mr Hubber’s wife said that “Keith is up early on Thursday ready to go by 9 am.  He is enjoying his time and coffee with his new friends”. Later the groups enjoyed a BBQ lunch together.

The Men on the Move has evolved over time to not just a coffee and catch up but a weekly adventure to many diverse community areas. The group has visited St Peters Cathedral in North Adelaide, ridden in the Flex auto car at the Tonsley Innovation centre, built a tool caddy in Bunnings and even experienced a ride on the track at the Bend Motorsport park in Tailem Bend. Social group coordinator, Monika is planning more experiences and adventures for 2021.

The Parkinson’s Self-Management group supports people living with the disease to better manage and understand the condition.

These are just two of the many group support and social programs on offer at Resthaven Marion Community Services for older people who live at home in the community. Wellness services also include group and individual physiotherapy, podiatry, occupational therapy, speech pathology and continence management. For more information, contact 8306 4400.

Resthaven Incorporated is one of just a select few aged care providers that offer the full range of support services to older people and their carers, from just a little support at home to high level residential aged care, across metropolitan Adelaide, the Adelaide hills, lower Barossa, Riverland, Murraylands, and the Limestone Coast of South Australia.
