Home Support Work brings joy to clients

Home Support Worker, Rosemary Gorodecky, enjoys making connections with her clients and assisting them through her work at Resthaven Western Community Services.

Based at Resthaven’s Regency Cottage, an average day for Rosemary is never the same.

‘Each day we are with a different group of clients with different likes, needs and capabilities. We try to cater to each of them and try our hardest to provide them with a fun, wonderful experience.’

‘Clients love to do a range of hands-on activities, from crafting pictures, vases and cards to the men’s numerous projects going on in The Shed,’ says Rosemary.

‘At the end of each session, clients have much delight in taking home their masterpieces to share with their family and friends.’

‘We also make sure to take lots of photos of their artwork. Rebbecca (Co-ordinator Resthaven Regency Cottage) prints them out and we display them on the walls of the cottage for clients to enjoy.

‘We know it brings joy to clients as they can look back on them and discuss their activities, sharing how beautiful their work is with everyone else.’

‘She has been visiting for many years now, and she is particularly good at drawing and colouring, and loves mind-challenging puzzles.’

‘Over the past few weeks, we have all been busy making cards for Father’s Day. Margaret has enjoyed making them and has made a few for her son and his family who live in America.’

‘She has recently shared how it makes her smile each day looking at the beautiful vase she made, decorated in lace and jewels.’

When asked why she chooses Home Support Work at Resthaven, she replied, ‘My days are truly blessed working with Resthaven’s gorgeous clients, I am so happy that I can make them smile and know when they leave for home, that they have all had a beautiful day.’

Established in 1935, Resthaven is a South Australian not-for-profit aged care community service associated with the Uniting Church in Australia.

Every day, Resthaven shares the lives and wisdom of older people and their carers, opening doors to the full range of aged care service options available.

Services are provided throughout metropolitan Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills, Murraylands, Riverland, Fleurieu Peninsula, lower Barossa region and the Limestone Coast of South Australia.
