Respite offers an important outlet for clients
Some friendships are formed over a lifetime, whereas others come later in life.
The latter is the case for clients Mrs Yvonne Campbell, 84, Mrs Evelyn Dunstan, 85, and Mr Rex Quarry, 94, who regularly join the social group that is part of the respite program at Resthaven Western Community Services in Woodville.
The group meets up several times a week and enjoys a range of activities such as crafts, puzzles and games, painting, and cooking. Social support is an important part of the day respite program.
‘I always look forward to seeing my friends. They encourage me to try new activities. We always learn so much from each other,’ Yvonne says.
Resthaven operates respite services across South Australia, providing short-term, day or overnight stays for older people and offering carers respite to help them stay well and healthy.
‘We understand and value the important role of carers in supporting their relatives and spouses as they age and are no longer fully independent,’ says Relieving Manager, Karen Hammond.
‘Sometimes, a carer needs to attend to other activities, or go on holidays. Respite enables a carer to remain healthy, in their caring role longer, and it enables both them and their loved one to have a wider social life.’
Resthaven staff are qualified, insured, and police checked, providing affordable support when and where you need it. Click here for more information about our home care services.
