A day of respite at Regency Cottage
Many clients at Resthaven Western Community Services enjoy regular respite at Regency Cottage, located at 111 Regency Road, Croydon Park—a respite house well known for building special friendships.
Home Support Worker, Rosemary Gorodecky, says, ‘This is a wonderful place for clients to come and enjoy a social day with like-minded people.’
‘Our days typically include morning tea, lots of banter, laughs and memory-stimulating games such as craft, bingo and puzzles.’
‘No matter what we get up to at Regency Cottage, we are always engaging in great conversation with one another.’
For 14 and a half years, long-term client, Mrs Yvonne Campbell (pictured right), has thoroughly enjoyed her weekly visits at Regency Cottage. She says, ‘I always look forward to the meals, and we are always up to something new.’
‘I have made many good friends here over the years—Trish and I are both very good at memory word games, and we will often play cards together. We challenge each other and laugh together. It has been very good for both of us.’
Yvonne and Trish are one of many special friendships formed at Regency Cottage.
‘Having a place of respite is so important for our clients and their families, and we all leave with a bigger smile on our faces. It is a special place,’ says Rosemary.
‘At the moment, we are looking forward to the warmer weather, so we can enjoy our beautiful verandah, start outdoor games and exercises, and spend more time in our client-run veggie garden that will soon be ready for more seedlings.’
Resthaven operates eight respite locations across South Australia, providing short-term, day or overnight stays for older people.
