‘Thank you’ to volunteers on National Volunteer Week

This week (18-25 May) is National Volunteer Week, and Resthaven says ‘thank you’ to volunteers for all that they do.

In this, Resthaven’s 85th anniversary year, we reflect on how volunteers have been at the heart of Resthaven since the very beginning.

‘Rest Haven’ was officially opened on 11 May, 1935, when two people volunteered to take a group of ladies into their home, supporting them in their older years.

Now, around 480 volunteers support Resthaven’s high quality aged care services across twelve residential aged care homes and fourteen community services locations throughout South Australia.

Stacey Thompson, Manager Volunteer Services, says, ‘Normally, we celebrate and thank volunteers with special events at all locations during May.’

‘However, this year, these events have been necessarily postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.’

‘That isn’t stopping us from thanking volunteers, however. This week, and all throughout the year, we thank volunteers for their amazing contribution.’

‘We look forward to holding our special “thank you” events later this year, when possible.’

‘These events are about taking the time to really appreciate the difference that volunteers make in the lives of the people whom Resthaven supports.’
