Resthaven’s Cassidy Knight awarded grant from Australian Seniors

Cassidy Knight, a Registered Nurse with Resthaven Riverland Community Services, has recently been awarded a $5,000 grant from Australian Seniors, as part of their Aged Care Futures Grant program.

Cassidy was awarded the grant after submitting an essay on the subject of why she has chosen a career in aged care, and how her further study into dementia care will help her clients.

‘I love knowing I can make a difference in someone’s care, providing them with dignity and respect,’ Cassidy says. ‘I really feel appreciated for the work I do, and it’s always nice to be able to stop and have a chat and see how things are going for my clients.’

The grant will assist Cassidy as she continues her studies with a Diploma in Dementia Care.

Cassidy has grown up in the Riverland and now travels the region for work. She studied nursing at Flinders University’s Renmark campus and is completing her diploma online.

Reflecting on the difference between working in the city and the country, Cassidy says that things seem closer when you’re in the country.

‘I’ve been able to really get to know the people I visit and have built relationships with them,’ Cassidy says. ‘Being able to improve the quality of someone’s day is one of the most satisfying and rewarding jobs anyone can do.’

Resthaven CEO Darren Birbeck commended Cassidy for her work and submission.

‘Cassidy’s passion for what she does comes out beautifully in her piece,’ Darren says. ‘We are fortunate to have her working with Resthaven.’
