Resthaven clients grow a green thumb

Resthaven Riverland Community Services have recently grown their social activity selection for clients, commencing a highly anticipated gardening group.

‘We had been getting quite a few requests to start up this group, with the desire to upgrade the gardens for everyone to enjoy,’ says Assistant Manager, Gina Stephenson.

The men meet once a fortnight for gardening, and on alternate weeks, get together for a “men’s shed” experience.

Currently, the group members are planting up the garden surrounding the shed – they are also planting seeds for the vegetable garden.

‘It has been great to see some clients using their years of experience in the yard while others have newly discovered their green thumb.’

‘This activity has been a huge success for us here – the men have embraced it and are excited to work on a project that will benefit everyone here.’

‘On gardening days, staff provide cuppas and a sausage sizzle to add to the fun.’

‘The men always have a great time, and regularly tell us so.’

‘We can’t wait to see what the garden will look like in spring!’
