What Home Care Reforms Mean for You

On 27 February 2017, the Australian Government’s Home Care reforms come into effect, aiming to improve the way home care packages are delivered to older people.

Resthaven has been planning for the Home Care reforms, and is confident that our services will continue to provide the same high standard of care.

‘The changes mean more people will be able to receive home care packages from Resthaven’, says Susan Chessman, Senior Manager, Community Services.

‘Currently, there is a fixed number of packages. After the reform comes into effect the package will be allocated to a person and Resthaven will then be able to deliver a service to anyone who chooses Resthaven.’

‘From February, all packages will be available to anyone, regardless of where they live, ensuring we are able to assist more people.’

‘People on a Resthaven waiting list for a Home Care Package will be transferred to a national waiting list. You will retain your place in the queue.’

Another important change is that people can take their package to whichever provider they choose.

‘Because we will no longer be limited to a certain number of packages, we will be able to deliver home care to however many people choose Resthaven.’

‘As the largest home care provider in South Australia, we are excited to be able to provide more services to more people in need across the state.’
