Looking for support in northern Adelaide through to the lower Barossa?

Resthaven Chief Executive Officer, Richard Hearn, says, ‘I frequently hear people discussing a need for support, particularly following a change in circumstance, such as being unsteady and falling unexpectedly. Many say that they just don’t know where or how to start the process.’

Resthaven Northern Community Services offers both government subsidised and private services, including Home Care Packages, Commonwealth Home Support Programme support, respite, group programs and rehabilitation and therapy at our wellness centre.

‘Support to stay living at home may include help around the home, laundry, gardening, meal preparation, medication management, transport to appointments and social events, shopping, access to professional nursing and allied health services, mobility support equipment, and so on.

‘Often, just a little support can make a huge difference to daily life, so I encourage people to contact us directly with their enquiries, as we can assist with the process of accessing services. For government subsidised services, this involves contacting the My Aged Care contact centre ( www.myagedcare.gov.au or phone 1800 200 422).

‘Earlier this year, Resthaven Northern Community Services was allocated six Short Term Restorative Care packages, which provide a limited time, early intervention program of flexible care at home. This aims to reverse or slow age and health related changes in strength and confidence in older people, and improve wellbeing.

‘Short Term Restorative Care offers intensive, goal-oriented, multidisciplinary and coordinated services over a short period to regain physical and emotional strength, confidence and capacity. Another aim is to postpone the need for a higher level home care package or a move into a residential aged care home. The program has had excellent outcomes in this regard.’

‘We have many activities on site weekly as well as well as bus outings.’

‘The social group runs every Thursday morning and afternoon for two hours.’

‘Clients come to spend time with friends, and to meet new ones, over a cuppa and a chat.’
