Mrs Hunt (100) leads with heart

Happy 100th birthday to Resthaven Marion resident, Mrs Jean Hunt, who is delighted to join the centenarian club on 25 July.

Born and raised in the mid-north town of Port Pirie in 1923, Mrs Hunt remembers her childhood fondly.

Son, Paul, says, ‘Mum grew up with her younger brother in the township, and had a nurturing mother, while her dad was serving in the Australian Army during World War I.’

Once the war was over, it wasn’t long before the family relocated to Adelaide.

‘Mum attended Black Forest Primary School, before leaving to become a seamstress, and to help her mum around the house.’

In the mid-1940s, Mrs Hunt met her soon-to-be husband, Mr Robert ‘Bob’ Hunt, who lived locally.

In 1948, the couple wed at their local church on Pirie Street, surrounded by their family and friends.

‘They were looking forward to married life together, and decided they would build their forever home in Clarence Gardens, where they stayed for 60 years.’

While waiting for their new home to be built, the newlyweds welcomed their first child, Janis, at Mrs Hunt’s childhood home.

Soon after moving into their newly built home in 1950, they welcomed two more children into their family, Glenys and Paul.

‘Mum has always been a natural mother. She absolutely lived for her kids, and still does today. She was great at cooking, baking, gardening, knitting, and keeping house—our home was so clean you could lick the floor!’

‘Her greatest heartbreak was losing Janis at the age of seven. She never forgot her, and, throughout all these years, she never stopped being an exceptional mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.’

‘Empathy is mum’s biggest asset, and she has always led life with heart, no matter what.’

Now, Mrs Hunt resides at Resthaven Marion, where she will be celebrating her 100th birthday.

‘She has a nervous anticipation of reaching 100, but she is looking forward to having her entire family with her to celebrate.’

‘It will be the first time that all six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren will be together in one place, which means the world to her.’

    Many happy returns, Mrs Hunt!
