    Renovations pose creative opportunity

With Resthaven Mount Gambier currently undergoing renovations, residents have used the temporary internal walls as a canvas for a beautiful spring mural.

Manager, Belle Kerr says, ‘Two suites in the wattle wing are currently being refurbished into four large single rooms, which is proposed to be completed in October.’

‘This isn’t the only improvement being made to the home. We are pleased that the air conditioning systems throughout the bottlebrush wing are being replaced, with centrally controlled air conditioning in common areas for residents’ comfort.’

As part of the works, last month, a temporary wall was installed in the memory support area, posing the perfect opportunity for residents to get creative!

Personal Care Assistant, Jess Millard, explains, ‘While the tradies were busy on the tools, residents were busy with the paint brushes, completing a colourful work of art to brighten up the temporary wall inside.’

‘Residents enjoyed being engaged in the painting process, placing handprints to incorporate into the piece and assisting staff on the brushes to bring the artwork to life.’

‘It was great fun to bring their ideas to life, such as the birds, rabbit, and the sun to complete the artwork nicely.’

‘The final artwork incorporates personal touches of resident handprints to create the larger flower petals and grass, and fingerprints for the smaller flower petals.’

‘There was plenty of positive chatter and laughs throughout, and residents particularly enjoyed having their hands painted!’

‘Residents and staff alike are pleased with the finished project, commenting on the bright and cheerful nature and the positive reactions displayed by all.’
