    Resthaven celebrates volunteers

Every day, volunteers at Resthaven make a real and tangible difference in enriching the lives of older people. Volunteers have been an important part of Resthaven since the very beginning in 1935.

Nationally, Australia recognises volunteers throughout National Volunteer Week, from 20-26 May 2024. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate with volunteers.

‘Volunteers are True Gems,’ Stacey Thompson, Resthaven’s Manager Volunteer Services says. ‘And in recognition of that, we have made this our theme for this year’s volunteer celebration events. Like gems, each volunteer is unique and precious.’

To show our appreciation, we are holding four celebration events with Resthaven Volunteers from different regions in South Australia.

Shelley van der Linde, Resthaven Mount Gambier Lifestyle Coordinator, sees the connections shared between residents and volunteers.

‘It’s so heartwarming,’ Shelley says. ‘Volunteers make a real difference in the lives of older people.’

And the volunteers often share with us the joy they experience through volunteering.

‘I have always enjoyed playing my guitar and singing with people, I had a particular interest in connecting with older people,’ says Bob who volunteers with Resthaven Mitcham and Resthaven Westbourne Park.

‘You truly care about the people you meet here,’ says Ian who volunteers with Resthaven Murray Bridge. ‘The residents all have stories to share that we learn from. I do it because I want to, and the community is beautiful – they are really appreciative of the time we share together, as am I’.

Join us in acknowledging and celebrating all Resthaven Volunteers and share the message about the value of volunteering. We welcome others to join the Resthaven community.
