Today, on Wednesday 18 May 2016, Resthaven Port Elliot celebrates its first birthday!
Residents will be celebrating the day with a High Tea, along with their family representatives.
Built in response to strong demand for aged care services on the Fleurieu Peninsula, the state-of-the-art site has lived up to the expectations of both residents, staff, and the local community.
‘We have employed nearly ninety permanent staff, and are well on track to delivering the estimated 100 jobs as the site approaches capacity’, says Darren Pike, Resthaven Senior Manager Residential Services.
‘We currently provide high quality care to over 80 older people. Available places are filling at a great pace, and we are on track to reach the capacity of 94 in the near future.’
Volunteering at the site has also proved popular. Currently, 27 volunteers regularly visit the site, offering their time and talent assisting with activities, running the shop, visiting residents, and so much more.
Also on offer are wellness services being delivered from the Community Services offices based in the old school house at 50 North Terrace. ‘Wellness at the Old School’ groups on Tuesdays include gentle exercises, outings, guest speakers and social support groups. These services are run by Resthaven Murray Bridge, Hills and Fleurieu Community Services.
As a first birthday surprise, the Resthaven Board have agreed to fund a mini bus for the site to be used for outings for residents and clients.
