A thrilling show day at Resthaven Mount Gambier

In late October, aged care home Resthaven Mount Gambier held its long-awaited ‘Show Day’ celebration, with residents, staff, and volunteers joining for this festive annual event.

‘Our Show Day is always held in conjunction with the Mount Gambier Show, bringing to life many of the same activities and atmosphere as the main event,’ Lifestyle Coordinator, Sue Wijewardhena, explains.

‘Residents, staff, and volunteers commemorated the occasion by making and entering their creations in the categories of art, craft, knitting and crocheting, photography, floral arrangements and cooking.’

‘Residents were delighted to judge the entries and determine the winners. There was so much enthusiasm and discussion over the creativity and presentation.’

‘Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and there was lots of laughter.’

Lifestyle Assistant, Tracey Krueger, says, ‘Staff love to get involved with the Show Day. A few brought in their furry and feathered pets this year, so we had our own Resthaven Mount Gambier petting zoo!’

‘Residents were excited to pet chickens, roosters, guinea pigs, and a rabbit.’

‘And of course, Teddy, the companion dog, was showing off his obedience skills.’

Another highlight for residents was the opportunity to ride a rollercoaster!

‘We played a rollercoaster simulation on the big screen, with residents experiencing the thrilling ride from the comfort of their armchairs,’ Tracey explains.

‘Overall, the day was a great success. Residents participated in a variety of games and loved receiving a show bag filled with lots of goodies,’ Sue says.

‘Many residents commented that it was just like attending the real Mount Gambier Show!’

‘Thank you to everyone for sharing this day with us and making our Show Day the best one yet.’

‘We look forward to doing it again next year!’
