Six years on, Resthaven Mount Gambier is going strong
A lot can happen in six years – just ask Resthaven Mount Gambier Manager, Lisa Sutcliffe, who joined residents and staff in celebrating the sixth anniversary of the site on 4 July, 2017.
The gardens planted in 2011 ‘have matured beautifully, and are flourishing under the care of our skilled maintenance staff,’ says Lisa.
‘Flowering climbers have grown up over the outdoor pergolas, and the ornamental pears provide dappled shade and autumn colour in the internal courtyards.’
‘There are some wonderful outdoor spaces here – I can’t believe this garden is only six years old!’
‘The gardens really complement the building, which is currently undergoing a $1m refurbishment.’
‘Improvements include a secure, indoor scooter shed for residents to store and charge their scooters, new screen doors, weatherproof blinds for the café area, and enclosing the first floor rear balcony with a vergola roof.’
‘I’m glad to see the weatherproofing of the café and balcony areas – it’s important to be able to utilise every space as much as we can for residents to enjoy.’
‘Before the renovations, the balconies weren’t being used, as there was no shade or weather protection.’
‘Now, it’s a really popular spot for residents to spend time in, as we can enclose the whole thing, or make it completely open-air.’
‘The refurbishment also encompasses the installation of smart televisions in residents’ rooms, which, when fully operational, will enable residents to use Skype, browse the internet, shop online, receive messages and much more, all from the comfort of their rooms.’
‘A water feature has also been installed in the café. We think this is a lovely feature for this area.’
‘Exciting times ahead!’
