Taylah’s ‘making a difference’ at Resthaven

Whilst Taylah Prime-Harris has always worked in hospitality, she says the meaningful connections she develops with residents as a Housekeeping Services Assistant is the reason why she loves her job.

Taylah, who works at Resthaven Marion, thoroughly enjoys ‘making a difference’ with her hospitality skills. She explains, ‘Before starting with Resthaven in 2020, I worked in hospitality for several years, with both back and front of house roles.’

‘From these roles, I gained so many valuable skills with food handling and customer service.’

‘But I was looking for more meaning and diversity in my career, and luckily, I found Resthaven!’

‘I wasn’t sure what to expect prior to applying, as I didn’t know anyone else my age who worked in aged care.’

‘The role is quite diverse so I thought that I might not have enough experience to apply. But, like anything, you have to start somewhere and learn as you go!’

‘The team at Resthaven Marion has been a great source of support for me, teaching me everything I need to know.’

‘I move between different housekeeping jobs, working in laundry, cleaning, kitchen, and pantry. No two days are ever the same.’

‘In my pantry role, I serve residents their morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea. I also take orders for meal service the next day and clean the pantry.’

Now approaching her three-year anniversary with Resthaven, Taylah reflects, ‘I’ve grown a lot as a person in this role, and my knowledge and skills in food services have bloomed immensely.’

‘I have formed special connections with the residents over the years. I enjoy chatting with them about their day and assisting them to make their lives easier,’ she says.

‘I also have gained a wealth of knowledge about the aged care sector, which is very helpful for my career development.’

‘Most importantly, I like knowing that I’m making a difference in someone’s life each and every day.’

When asked what she would say to someone who was considering a career with Resthaven, Taylah says, ‘Step outside your comfort zone and try something new!’

    Great advice, Taylah!
