An interesting career in aged care

Newly appointed Residential and Retirement Living Support Coordinator, Kerry Amberg, began her career in aged care in 2005 at Resthaven’s Head Office – starting as a Claims Administrator in Finance and working her way into the Support Coordinator role for Residential Services and Retirement Living.

‘Working in the varied roles that I have held over the years, has helped me to see that every area and every position, no matter how small, is important.’

‘It is about the big picture. Everyone at Resthaven has their part to play in the success of the organisation, and no one role is more important than the other – we are all needed here and work together.’

Each work day for Kerry is different from the day before, seeing her put her varied knowledge to use.

Kerry’s new role assists Coordinators in both Residential Accommodation and Retirement Living to find suitable accommodation for the elderly community. Kerry has recently stepped into the Retirement Living Coordinator role to cover a period of leave and has found this incredibly rewarding.

‘I love the many challenges and rewards that come with the job that I do – particularly when I can assist a family with a smooth transition into a new home,’ Kerry says.

Kerry also works closely with senior management in Residential Services and Retirement Living, assisting as required with Policy reviews and Project work.

‘I am pleased to see the growth from when I started in aged care compared to now, and hope for even better things to come in the future and to be a part of that change in my role.’

Kerry has benefited from support through Resthaven’s Professional Development Fund, undertaking additional studies to enable her to progress in her career within the organisation.

Every day, Resthaven shares the lives and wisdom of older people and their carers, being one of only a select few aged care providers in Australia offering the full range of aged care service options.

A not for profit, South Australian aged care community service associated with the Uniting Church, Resthaven’s residential and in-home care and support options are offered throughout metropolitan Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills, Murraylands, Riverland, Barossa, Fleurieu Peninsula and the Limestone Coast.
