Port Elliot residents help feed homeless
Hunger gets the chop
Resthaven Port Elliot residents are assisting local café owner, Pip Robertson, to make soup for a food van operating out of Goolwa.
Residents travel to the ‘Café on Railway’ fortnightly on the Resthaven bus, to lend their vegetable chopping expertise. Together, the group create hearty winter soups for the homeless and disadvantaged, using vegetables donated by Oz Harvest.
‘It’s a privilege to be able to give back to our community,’ says Mrs Hazel Jones, who is pictured with fellow resident, Mrs Ann Leigh.
This sentiment is echoed by other participants, including Resthaven Port Elliot Lifestyle Coordinator, Kirsty Meggison, who coordinates the venture.
‘The feedback from everyone who takes part is really positive,’ says Kirsty.
‘Everyone enjoys our fortnightly trips to the Café on Railway to chop veggies and have a chat.’
‘Pip nicknamed our group “Chop n Chat,” which I think is very apt!’
‘It’s a wonderful opportunity to give back.’
