Volunteer, Sarah, makes a special connection

    A French Connection

‘We have a French connection at Resthaven’s Ridgway House!’, says Stacey Thompson, Manager Volunteer Services.

‘We are so happy that Sarah Burnett has become a volunteer and joined the group at Ridgway House.’

‘Ridgway House is an overnight and day respite cottage run by Resthaven Community Respite Services,’ says Lisa Edwards, Ridgway Coordinator.

‘It just so happens that Sarah is fluent in French and we have been able to introduce her to a client who also speaks French – this is a fabulous French connection!’

‘Whilst Sarah has only just recently joined us, we are very happy, because we already knew Sarah from the time when she was a young girl and volunteered with her father, Julian Sporne, with Resthaven Community Services.’

On Sarah’s first day with Ridgway House, she joined in colouring Julian’s hair a rainbow of colours.

‘This was part of The World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser, raising funds to help families beat blood cancer.’

Julian is now the Assistant Manager with Resthaven Community Respite Services and took on the challenge to support this worthy cause.

‘Sarah and her family are known for their family game nights. This means she is going to fit in well with the guests at Ridgway House who enjoy their board games. ‘

‘Sarah also loves baking, so we wonder what little French morsels they may bake together – we can’t wait to see. Bon appetite!’

‘We encourage and welcome more people to volunteer and share their interests and passions,’ Stacey explains. ‘Volunteers are an integral part of Resthaven in providing care and support to older people.’
