    Paradise for knitters

On 21 September—due to popular demand—Resthaven Paradise & Eastern Community Services held their first ‘Spinning Yarns’ knitting social group session.

Therapy Assistant and group facilitator, Nicola Grose, says ‘Our clients love their knitting, and our weekly “Clicking Needles” group has progressively outgrown itself.’

‘In response to client requests, we decided to open up a second knitting group option, “Spinning Yarns,” and we think this one will be just as popular.’

To help facilitate the new group, a Resthaven volunteer offered her assistance.

‘Vy [Thuy Nguyen] has recently joined our site community as a volunteer, and she was thrilled to offer her time to our new group,’ says Nicola.

‘We are incredibly grateful to Vy, and all volunteers who offer their time. It really helps our team give more personalised experiences to clients—it makes all the difference.’

After a successful first session, the Spinning Yarns social group are already planning future projects.

‘There has been a discussion among the group about knitting blankets to gift to the homeless for Christmas—an initiative that is important to all of us here at Resthaven, especially for the festive season.’

‘The group are ready for the challenge to see how many boxes they can fill!’

With a Health and Wellness Centre onsite, Resthaven Paradise & Eastern Community Services offers a range of in-home support and respite, health and wellness activities and allied health services.
